What Is IRS Form 4547?
Form 4547 is the official IRS election form used to open a 530A Trump Account and request the one-time $1,000 federal pilot program contribution for eligible children. It was made available starting January 27, 2026. Without this form, your child born 2025–2028 will not receive the government's $1,000 — even if they qualify. This is not automatic. You must file.
Who Should File Form 4547?
The person who claims the child as a qualifying child on their federal tax return should file Form 4547. In most cases, this is the child's parent. Grandparents, legal guardians, or other caregivers who claim the child can also file. Only one election per child is allowed — so coordinate with co-parents to avoid confusion.
Three Ways to Submit Form 4547
Option 1: Attach it to your 2025 Form 1040 when you file your taxes — recommended, since the IRS already has your info on file. Option 2: Mail it separately to the IRS even if you've already filed your taxes. Option 3: Complete it online at TrumpAccounts.gov in about four minutes. All three options are valid. The key is to file before July 4, 2026.
What Information You'll Need
Form 4547 asks for basic information: your name and Social Security number (as the electing adult), the child's name, date of birth, and Social Security number, and your relationship to the child. That's it. There's no complex financial information required — the government already has what it needs from your tax records.
What Happens After You File?
After you file Form 4547, the IRS processes your election and the Treasury Department sets up the initial account. Families who file early are expected to receive account access instructions in May 2026. The $1,000 government contribution is expected to be deposited on or around July 4, 2026. You can then roll the account over to a private brokerage like Vanguard, Fidelity, or Schwab.
